A Rosicrucian Funeral
The Rosicrucian Apron is placed upon the coffin and purple candles lighted are placed upon a triangle in front of the coffin area ( Standing on the side of the coffin facing the congregation but looking at the head of the coffin make the sign of the cross ) Upon the apron is the Rose, which symbolizes man's inner Self Unfolding, and as each petal of the Rose unfolds, it reveals man's inner self, in all its beauty and glory, as Gods expression in man. I am the Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end and therefore the beginning. Across the Cosmic threshold has passed another initiate into the temple of God. In that temple there are degrees of understanding, grades of advancement, cycles of progression and the sublime degree of perfection. ( Say while placing the apron upon the coffin ) In this earthly life this apron would have served thee as a symbol of thy readiness to serve humanity. Thy body and personality would have been ensconced by the rose and cross - In thy divine initiation thou shall have no need of the cross for thou have borne that cross well and God hath laid it aside but the rose in all its sweetness and perfect development shall remain with thee as a symbol of the unfolding of thy soul experience. To symbolize this I do now remove from thine apron the rose and in thine hand of thy earthly body I place another rose fresh from life with fragrance and purity that it to may return unto dust of the earth to rise again and through resurrection become manifest in all its glory ( sprinkle a red rose over the apron while saying the above ) ( Face the lighted candles which should be purple on a purple cloth and three in number and while facing the candles ) Man's expression in the earth plane is symbolized by these three lighted candles - the flame of each symbolizes the transmission of the baser, gross and material thoughts of man into the higher and more spiritual ideals of truth. These three flames symbolize the light, life and love of God that have been expressing in the physical body or our fraternal brother ____________________ and as that light, life and love of God are no longer expressing here we extinguish these three flames that they too may burn in cosmic realms in oneness with God indicating our brothers initiation into the higher temple in the kingdom of God. ( While snuffing the candles say ) Light, Life, Love Now burn in cosmic realms ( Facing the coffin ) Before the sign of the cross, I attest the laws of God fulfilled, and unto earth, shall return again. May the Blessing of God rest upon you.
